[origin: EP0943798A2] The axial piston machine has a drum (6) rotating round an axis (47), with cylinders (26) in which pistons (29) supported by a swash plate (3) move. The bore walls have recesses for the hydraulic relief of the sliding motion of the pistons in the cylinders, in the form of elongated relief grooves running spirally or in a zigzag. Alternatively, the borings may be of oval cross section and the pistons of circular cross section, forming intermediate relief cavities
