[origin: EP0945782A1] A system (100) has a memory (110), a data bus 120, in a converter (130), and a processor (140). The converter (130) comprises pluralities of buffers (140-143, 150-153), multiplexers (145, 155, 160, 170), and decoders (180, 190). The memory (110) send code words (220) with compressed code bit numbers to the buffers of the converter (130). First multiplexers (145, 155) concatenate the code bits to bitstream, and second multiplexers (160, 170) feed bit clusters (260) with code portions (220) to the decoders (180, 190). The decoder (180, 190) extracts instruction portions (210) which can be executed by the processor (140) at run time without significant delay or intermediate storing. The decoders (180, 190) also provide pointers (S, S') which determine the location of the clusters (260). <IMAGE>
