[origin: WO9827472A1] The invention relates to a method for operating an electrographic printer or copier, wherein toner particles of varying colors are applied to a toner image carrier by at least two developing units (100, 102). A force field is applied to at least one section (A', B', C', A'', B'', C'') of the travel path of the toner particles from a toner container to the toner image carrier (12), thereby conveying the toner particles in the direction of the toner image carrier (12). When both developing units (100, 102) are in rest position, conveyance of toner particles to the section (A', B', C', A'', B'', C'') is interrupted by modification of the force field.
