[origin: EP0947223A1] The restraining system for the pull cord (4) of a fire extinguisher, which activates the extinguisher when released, is a contracted structure (1) which is released by retainer (5,6) on being heated. The structure (1) is wound and twisted from a single spring steel wire, with an eyelet (2) at one end to take the extinguisher pull cord (4) and lead it through a further eyelet (3). The wire structure is held in the tensed restraining position by the retainer (5,6) to spring out when released and exert a pull on the extinguisher cord.
