Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0947299A1] A cementitious product has an exposed surface finish which is applied during formation of the product by a pressing process and which simulates the surface and aspect of natural stone provided by secondary processing. The pressing process uses a pressing apparatus comprising a serie of compacting/stripping heads (27), mould cavities (22), pallets (26), and feeding hoppers (23) and (35). Each plunger (28) has a metal holder (30) defining a recess (31) which accomodates and retains a flowable mass formed by a block of resilient material such as polyurethane. Continued pressure applied by the plungers causes the shoes (32) to diform and, in deforming, the surface in contact with the cementitious mix (24) comprising water, sand, cement and warse aggregates increases. The flowable material (32) flows around the uppermost aggregate particles (5) and presses upon the fines (4) driving them into the areas between the aggregates (5). The formed products have a surface finish simulating the surface of natural stone with exposed course aggregates (5). <IMAGE>
