[origin: WO9829218A1] The invention relates to a vacuum hold-down system by means of which workpieces to be machined are placed onto suction elements and fixed by a vacuum applied to their lower sides. Said system is characterized in that it comprises two levels (A and B) through which a vacuum is able to flow and which communicate with each other in such a way that a fluid can flow through them. One of said levels (A) is flexibly arranged in direction x and the other level (B) is flexibly arranged on the first level (A) in direction y, whereby only the lower level (A) is fitted with vacuum and/or compressed air connections and by means of the two levels (A and B) it is possible to create a suction geometry appropriate to the contours of the workpiece to be machined.
