Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2320002A] The trunnion bearings 8,10, of an oleo strut 7, are mounted one on a wing rear spar 2, and the other on a gear beam 4, mounted between the spar and the aircraft fuselage. The spar-located mounting includes fusible links (12)(fig. 1) while the rear bearing 10, is mounted in a housing 11, mounted by trunnions 16,17, on the beam 4, for rotation about the longitudinal axis 15, of the beam. Alternatively (figures 8-12) the housing 11, may be mounted firmly in the beam 4, that itself is mounted on the spar and fuselage for rotation about the axis 15. Unwanted rotational movement of the beam may then be prevented by a strut (34) or fuse pins (37-40)(figures 13 and 14). During an emergency overload condition, the fusible links (12) of the spar-located mounting fail, allowing the strut 7, to rotate about the axis 15, until the bearing 10, drops out of the housing 11, ensuring controlled detachment of the landing gear.
