[origin: EP0950362A2] The tongue insert has a thicker lining in the ankle area, and is fitted into a shoe by hook-and-loop fastener strips. The tongue insert has an outer cover layer, a foam lining, and an inner lining. The tongue is fastened to the boot via hook-and-loop fastener strips (4). One strip is located on the inside of the shoe in an area extending from the tip of the toe to the ankle, the second strip is located on the corresponding part of the tongue (3). The tongue comprises a lower foot section (3a), an upper section (3b) corresponding to the lower shin, and a middle narrow connection section (3c). A gusset (9) of an easily and elastically deformable material is positioned on either side of the central section. The tip (9c) of the gusset faces the central section and its outer edge (9b) projects in a curve from the outer edges of lower and upper sections.
