[origin: WO9807527A1] In a process for applying a multilayered coat of lacquer, a priming layer, a base lacquer layer and one or more clear lacquer coatings are applied on a metallic surface that can be autophoretically coated. An intermediate layer can be applied between the priming layer and the base lacquer layer. The priming layer is applied as a first coating layer made of a coating agent that can be autophoretically deposited and is then baked, and the other coating layers are then applied, so that the total dry layer thickness of the multilayered coat of lacquer lies between 80 and 130 mu m and the total dry layer thickness of the clear lacquer layers lies between 40 and 80 mu m.
