[origin: EP0952560A2] The method involves connecting the franking machine (10) to a PC (20) via an interface; setting the remote value specification function in the franking machine; setting up a connection via the Internet from the PC and selecting a pre-prepared server (30) address giving access the franking manufacturer's services, setting up the PC for communications; exchanging information including verification data and residual value data; adding a value to the franking machine's credit memory and terminating the process by setting the franking machine to the ready state.
