Abstract (en)
[origin: DE19701325A1] The invention concerns a method of covering, securing and, if necessary, sealing soil or soil regions with polymer films which are watertight or water-repellant for a predeterminable amount of time. According to the invention, these polymer films are to be formed in situ on the regions to be covered in that the soil surface in question is first provided with a primer containing solids which are water-insoluble but swell and form a film on contact with water. The polymer film with increased watertightness is then produced as a cover layer on this primer in that previously formed polymer substances are applied in the form of melts, solutions, emulsions and/or dispersions of film-forming and optionally hardening polymer compounds and/or by the application of, in particular light- or UV-hardenable, monomers and/or corresponding macromers, with subsequent hardening. The method is used for covering areas of ground used for agricultural or forestry purposes, and also for forming permanent protective layers, in particular against the undesired ingress of water, for example, in the landscaping and protection of landfill sites and areas of water.
