Abstract (en)
The apparatus to cut a weft yarn (23), for insertion through the shed of a gripper loom, has a cutter (21) and a holding mechanism (22). A control system (6) generates signals for the two units so that the weft (23) is either released or cut. The control (6) is a sensor where the draw tension on the weft determines whether it is to be released or cut. Or it is a signal generator at the yarn feed, where its lie determines whether it is to be released or cut. The weft holder (22) has a mechanism at the weft yarn path to retain the yarn, when the unit is in the rest position. In the operating position it is outside the yarn path to release the weft for cutting. The cutter (21) has a rotating blade, and the holder has a function to lay the yarn against its cutting edge. The cutter has a circular cutting edge, or the moving blade is divided into a number of cutting edges, and can be a moving blade working together with a fixed blade forming the holder. The assembly has electromagnets to operate the units. The assembly is controlled to cut the weft at time intervals and/or set lengths as the weft is drawn off for use.
