[origin: WO9725246A1] A packaging machine and method for continuously setting up and loading end-loading type cartons (C) in which each such carton is caused sequentially to be delivered in flat collapsed condition to an infeed end of a packaging machine(s). Lower panel portions (12) of the carton are restrained and upper portions (10) of the carton are raised by overhead vacuum elements (64, 66) so as to bring the carton into set-up condition. The carton is progressed downstream to be supported by leading and trailing support lugs (3, 4) when set up so that the lugs hold the carton in set-up condition whereby the vacuum elements can be relieved. Further support lugs (1, 2) are provided by overhead booms which support upper side wall portions of the carton. The machine (M) is adjustable in numerous respects to accommodate a wide variety of carton sizes.
