Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0957188A1] The flat (2) is measured after grinding with the clothing (4) pointing upwards while an upward load (10) is applied to compensate for bending due to gravity in its working position. A correctly ground flat is placed above it with the clothing pointing downwards and a uniform gap between the two indicates correct grinding. Independent claims are also included for the following: a) A jig for measuring and grinding card flats (2) while an upward compensating load (10) is applied. The holder (43) can move on a slide (45) along rails (44) under the grinding cylinder (8) or to a measuring station. Arrangements (49) for dressing the grinding cylinder, e.g. with a diamond, are included b) Arrangements for dressing a grinding cylinder on a card by traversing a dressing tool parallel to the axis of the grinding cylinder. c) Grinding of card cylinder with the axis of grinding cylinder skewed to compensate for the hyperbolic shape of grinding cylinder due to bending during dressing. d) Method and apparatus for grinding card cylinder so that the smallest diameter of the grinding roller corresponds with the largest diameter of the cylinder.
