[origin: EP0957239A1] The arrangement has a first camshaft (11) mechanically coupled to the crankshaft (13), a second camshaft (112) mechanically coupled to the first camshaft, a control drive (116) which sets the phase of the second camshaft relative to the first and a transfer element. The transfer element transfers the stroke of the cams to the valve, so that the lift of the first camshaft defines the start or end of the valve stroke and that of the second camshaft defines the end or start of the valve stroke. A camshaft sensor (5) determines the rotation angle of the second camshaft.
