Abstract (en)
A system for verifying ownership of articles is based on attributing a unique article number and an ownership certificate to each article. The ownership certificate carries an individual certification number different from the article number. A central computer (6) with a storage (7) contains a list of matching pairs of article and certification numbers. The system can be queried by entering both, the article and certification numbers. The system then returns if the two numbers match or if the do not match. The system provides no means for retrieving a certification number from a article number or vice versa but requires that both numbers are entered for a query. This makes it impossible to forge an ownership certificate from a given article or an article number from a given certificate. <IMAGE>
