Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19704155A1] The invention relates to a housing for an electrical connector and to an electrical connector with a housing. The housing (1) consists of an insulating material. It is suitable for receiving a metallic contact element (16). The contact element (16) has a crimping contact region for the contact-making of a first cable end and an insulation-piercing terminal contact region for the contact-making of a second cable. The intention is to avoid cables penetrating inadvertently into the insulation-piercing terminal contact region. This may be effected, for example, by a cover, the installation of which can usually be performed, however, either manually or only with a very complicated tool. The problem is solved by a housing (1) with a top wall (6) which is divided into two parts by a slit (7). The slit (7) is in this case advantageously not of a straight design, but has portions staggered with respect to one another. The side walls (5, 11) are designed in such a way that they can be bent open and then a cable (30) can be introduced through the widened slit (7) of the top wall (6) into the insulation-piercing terminal contact region (18).
