[origin: US6237481B1] A material web is processed in a contact zone between a stationary roller and a driven working roller. The working roller diameter is smaller than the diameter of the stationary roller. The working roller is displaceable in all directions transverse to the length of the movement of the web. The working roller is pressed against the stationary roller by a presser that presses on a peripheral area of the working roller opposite the contact zone. The pressing operation is continuous over the working width of the working roller and the material web is permitted to pass through the contact zone between the working roller and the stationary roller.
