[origin: EP0959186A1] The flushing system comprises a cistern (12) to hold the water for flushing the toilet, fed through a valve and designed to be refilled when the water level drops below a given point. The valve is actuated by a float (30) and a thrust arm (26) which connects the float via a transmission mechanism (16) to a valve opening mechanism (61). When the water reaches a set upper level the inlet valve is closed and the outlet valve (28) opened, flushing the toilet, and once the water drops to a certain level the outlet valve is closed and the inlet valve opened again to refill the cistern.
