[origin: EP0960987A2] An expansion joint for use in construction has a metal edge (41,42) secured to element and linked by a small overlap which is further secured by an intermediate rubber strip vulcanised to both metal edges. The joint is further protected by a wider rubber strip (30) laid over the joint and vulcanised to the metal edges by its outer rims. A release strip (48) between the wider rubber strip and the joint prevents the wider strip being vulcanised to the metal in the centre and thereby allowing greater flexibility.
