[origin: DE19823359C1] The franking or addressing machine has a locating part (I) on which items of postage can be laid individually or in stacks. It also has a transport part (II) for serially conveying the items. Both parts have a common guide wall (1). The guide wall has, in the locating part, an opening for the ink jet printer (4) and for a selectively actuable lift off device (6). The latter extends into the location part. A side guide wall separates the locating and the transport part. The side wall is orthogonal to the common guide wall.
