Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9837529A1] The invention relates to a data transmission device for a traffic-guidance and traffic-information system integrated into a signal light system in road traffic installations. Known data transmission devices for traffic-guidance and traffic-information systems are added to existing signal light systems (LS), so that different control techniques are required for the signal light systems and the data transmission device. In a signal light system (LS) at least one signalling unit is embodied by a matrix of light-emitting diodes which consists of both light-emitting diodes which emit light in the visible range (SIL) and light-emitting diodes which emit light in the infrared range (IRL). Both groups of diodes can be controlled separately via their corresponding control units (IS, ES) using high-frequency current pulses as common technology. This allows for both signal transmission using light and data transmission using infrared light. The yellow light of red-yellow-green signalling system can preferably be replaced by a matrix of light-emitting diodes, which can be controlled form a traffic control centre (VLZ) via a data transmission line (DL) using a control unit (SE). The addition of photodiodes also permits two-way communication with motor vehicles. Said device is used in traffic-guidance and traffic-information systems for transmitting data to motor vehicles.
