[origin: EP0962574A1] The illumination, for a sewing machine, is a light (17) fitted to the under side of the sewing machine head (7). The lamp holder is at the needle shaft (9) and presser foot shaft, with at least one lamp (19). The lamp (19) surrounds the needle (9) and presser foot (13) shafts round an angle of ≥ 180 degrees . The lamp (19) is a continuous light tube, round the needle and presser foot shafts (9,13), without a break, by ≥ 180 degrees . The ends of the lamp tube are connected to a power supply at the sewing machine, for a tube with a rectangular or round path. At least a section of the lamp holder is a reflector, to deflect the light from the lamp (19) to the working surface (5) at the presser foot (15) and the tip of the needle (11). The lamp holder, or holder sections, can swing into positions. At least one swing position has shells in the shape of a cylinder mantle with cylinder pins at the fixed position. At least one swing section has a grip to set the alignment of the reflector. The lamp (19) is pref. a cold light cathode fluorescent lamp, which generates no heat and gives a pleasant light.
