The arm rest (8) is seated on the backrest support (4) which is telescopically adjustable on the backrest column (1) and is fixed relative thereto by a locking device which consists on one side of a double row of aligned detent recesses (13) running vertically in opposing walls (11,12) of the column (1) and on the other side of a bolt attached to the backrest support and having two interengaging relatively displaceable bolts (17,18). Each bolt has a detent head (23) matching the contour of the recesses and a narrower web (22) matching the contour of the slits (14) which connect the recesses together. When the bolt is locked the detent heads sit in the recesses o lock the support against rotary and vertical movement. When the bolt is released the webs align with the slits to allow height adjustment of the arm rest.

Eine höhenverstellbare Armlehne ist mit einer Lehnensäule (1), einer auf der Säule (1) teleskopartig höhenverschiebbaren Lehnenträger (4), einer darauf sitzenden Armstütze (8) und einer Arretiereinrichtung (10) zur Fixierung des Lehnenträgers (4) bezüglich der Lehnensäule (1) in abgestuften Höhenstellungen versehen. Die Arretiereinrichtung besteht einerseits aus in Vertikalrichtung in der Lehnensäule verlaufenden Doppelreihe von miteinander fluchtenden Rastausnehmungen (13), die über Durchtrittsschlitze (14) miteinander verbunden sind. Andererseits ist am Lehnenträger (4) eine Riegeleinheit (16) angebracht, die zwei miteinander in Eingriff stehenden, relativ zueinander verschiebbare Riegelbolzen (17, 18) aufweist. Diese weisen jeweils einen Rastkopf (23) für die Rastausnehmungen (13) und einen der Kontur der Durchtrittsöffnungen (14) angepaßten, schmaleren Steg (22) auf. Bei gelöster Riegeleinheit fluchten die Stege (22) mit den Durchtrittsöffnungen (14). <IMAGE>
