Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0963923A2] Rubbish collection vehicle has a lift and tip device (10) attached to its side for lifting up of a rubbish container (wheelie bin). The lift and tip device can be moved in three directions with respect to the vehicle away from it (X), upwards (Y) and along the length of the vehicle (Z). The holding device (12) for the container has two sensors. The first (optical) sensor emits a light beam such as infrared and is used to detect the edge of the container. The second sensor is a broad beam ultrasonic sensor and is used to determine the distance of the container from its holding device (12).
