[origin: EP0964268A1] Radar system uses additional interpolated beams for smaller grid size in coverage grid. The procedure for increasing angular coverage of radar beams includes the use of a grid array of beams having a large step size (1) covering the whole of the required area. Further beams (grids 2, 3) are interpolated between the points of the main mesh (1) in order to provide a grid with a sufficiently small step size to provide the required probability of detection. The interpolation is effected by operation on the complex numbers representative of the beam parameters. The number of interpolated beams may vary with time, and the density of the interpolated beams is variable according to the regions to be covered. The system operates in conjunction with a post-integration processing technique acting on several bursts of radar pulses.
