[origin: WO9856964A1] The invention relates to a method for treating an electrolyte used for electrophoretic painting. The electrolyte concentration of ions attacking the electrodes (3) is diluted by removing part of the electrolyte and by replacing the removed electrolyte with a corresponding low-iron fluid while keeping it below an upper limit. The inventive method can be carried out in a cost-effective manner by subjecting the removed part of the electrolyte to inverse osmosis (6) and by re-introducing it, at least as part of the replacement fluid, into the electrolyte used.
