[origin: DE19709299A1] The invention relates to a device for reducing rotational irregularities of a unit (1, 2, 16) which rotates irregularly, especially of an internal combustion engine (1), comprising an electric machine (3, 15) which has at least two active units (4, 17; 5, 18) which rotate in relation to one another. The first of said active units is connected to the irregularly rotating unit (1, 2, 16)and the second can essentially rotate freely. Said electric machine (3, 15) induces relative torques between said active units (4, 17; 5, 18) to counteract the rotational irregularities, thus providing the support against the inert mass of the second active unit (5, 18) which can essentially rotate freely. Said relative torques are induced actively so that the moments of momentum which are transmitted to the freely rotating inert mass of the second active unit (5, 18) when a rotational irregularity occurs are greater than the moments of momentum which would be transmitted if the second active unit (5, 18) were simply connected to the first active unit (4, 17). The invention also relates to a corresponding method.
