[origin: FR2759696A1] The invention concerns a method for preparing 4-cyano-4'-hydroxy biphenyl, consisting in protecting the aldehyde function of 4-bromo-benzaldehyde, reacting the protected 4-bromo-benzaldehyde with p-alcoxyphenyl magnesium halide, deprotecting the formyl of the protected 4-alcoxy-4'-formyl-biphenyl and transforming the formyl group into cyano and hydrolysing the alcoxy group of the resulting 4-alcoxy-4'-cyano biphenyl.
