[origin: WO9840628A1] The invention relates to a pump which drives liquid at least part of the time and has a shaft seal (4) and a shaft bearing (5) acting upon the same shaft (3) outside said shaft seal. The intermediate chamber (8) is connected to a vacuum chamber of said pump so that any leaking liquid cannot penetrate outwards. The connection between the intermediate chamber (8) and said pump starts at a lower position in the intermediate chamber (8) than the connection between the intermediate chamber (8) and the shaft bearing (5).
