The printer includes a transport system (16) for transporting the final image carrier (18) past a print assembly (20). A first printing unit of the print assembly produces a first toner image on a first photo conductor. With at least one further printing unit, it produces a further toner image on a further photo conductor. A transmission system is provided for the direct or indirect transfer of a first toner image and the further toner image on a surface section on the front side of the final image carrier. The assembly (20) is provided for the reception of the first printing unit in a first mounting (1), and for the reception of the further printing unit in a further mounting (II). So that the first mounting (I) and the further mounting (II), essentially have the same structure, and the first printing unit and/or the further printing unit is inserted detachable in the assembly (20). Each printing unit contains a photoconductor belt and toner supply. A transfer corona appts. is arranged opposite each printing unit on the other side of the image carrier.

Beschrieben wird ein elektrofotografischer Drucker (10) zum Bedrucken eines Endbildträgers (18), mit einer Transportvorrichtung (16) zum Transport des Endbildträgers (18), mit einer ersten Druckeinheit (60) zum Erzeugen eines ersten Tonerbildes auf einem ersten Fotoleiter, mit mindestens einer weiteren Druckeinheit zum Erzeugen eines weiteren Tonerbildes auf einem weiteren Fotoleiter, mit einer Übertragungsvorrichtung zum direkten oder indirekten Übertragen des ersten Tonerbildes und des weiteren Tonerbildes auf einen Oberflächenabschnitt auf der Vorderseite des Endbildträgers (18), und mit einer Baugruppe (20) zum Aufnehmen der ersten Druckeinheit in einer ersten Aufnahme (I) und zum Aufnehmen der weiteren Druckeinheit in einer weiteren Aufnahme (II), wobei die erste Aufnahme (I) und die weitere Aufnahme (II) im wesentlichen gleichen Aufbau haben, und wobei die erste Druckeinheit und/oder die weitere Druckeinheit lösbar in die Baugruppe (20) eingesetzt ist. <IMAGE>
