[origin: WO9841463A2] An apparatus includes a first and a second curved guides (36, 37), which are fed with respectively a first and a second film (20) made of a heat-formable material. First and second sensor means (56, 57) are situated at the outlet of the curved guides (36, 37) to detect the presence of leading edges of these films (20) thus making them stop in a position, in which they are ready to be fed to the packaging machine. Downstream of the curved guides (36, 37), there is a station (60), in which the leading edge and the trailing edge of the first and second films (20) are spliced. This splicing station (60) is equipped with sensor means (58) to detect running out of the first film (20) and command the supply of the second film (20). The splicing station includes also a cutting group (66), which is operated crosswise to the film (20) advancement direction (A), to cut respectively, a terminal part (200) and beginning part (201) of the films (20). The splicing station (60) is equipped also with a taping group (76), that moves in the same plane as the cutting group (66) and supports an applying roller (81) to which an adhesive tape is supplied from a reel (80) to be applied to the films (20) edges.
