The newspaper parcel etc. or cube-shaped object (10) is placed on a support table (24), and compressed during wrapping with the band-shaped material. The support table and the compression units (30,32) are turned about an axis (26), which extends at right angles to the feed direction (F) of the parcels. There are at least two compression units, which are controlled independently of each other at a distance to the table. The support table has a reversible conveyor belt (18), and the compression units have a continuous pref. reversible compression belt (38) moving over deflection pulleys (36).

Die Vorrichtung zum Umwickeln von quaderförmigen Gegenständen (10) mit einem bahnförmigen Umwickelmaterial (12) weist eine Fördereinrichtung (14) auf. Der zweite Bandförderer (18) ist um die Achse (26) drehbar. Er bildet einen Auflagetisch (24) und ihm sind zwei Druckeinrichtungen (30, 32) zugeordnet. Der zu umwickelnde Gegenstand (10') wird im zusammengepressten Zustand vom ersten Bandförderer (16) in den vom zweiten Bandförderer (18) und der Druckeinrichtung (30) gebildeten Umlegekanal (42) eingeführt, wobei die Materialbahn (70) U-förmig um diesen Gegenstand angelegt wird. Gleichzeitig wird der vorgängig in dieser Art umwickelte Gegenstand (10) dem dritten Bandförderer (20) übergeben, wobei der Endabschnitt (78) an den Gegenstand (10) angelegt wird. Anschliessend wird die Führungseinrichtung (62) in Richtung gegen unten bewegt, wobei einerseits ein erster Materialbahnabschnitt (76) gebildet und ein zweiter Materialbahnabschnitt (90) entlang der hinteren Seite (82) des Gegenstandes geführt wird. Nach dem Durchtrennen der Materialbahn (70) in den ersten und zweiten Abschnitt (76, 90) wird der Auflagetisch (24) gedreht, um nachfolgend bei der Übergabe des Gegenstandes (10') an den dritten Bandförderer (20) den Endabschnitt (78) an den Gegenstand (10') anzulegen. <IMAGE>
