[origin: EP0971170A2] Ash from a powdered coal - fired furnace is cooled on leaving the furnace, in a wet sump (2) and the ash, containing up to 50% w/w moisture, is removed from the sump and dewatered in a vibratory sieve unit (14) prior to discharging for further processing.
