[origin: WO9941180A1] The invention relates to a winding device for winding a thread (1) or ribbon into a package (7). To this end the winding device comprises a fixed winding spindle (8), a traversing system (37) having an inverse-thread shaft and a movable support system (22) for changing the distance between the winding spindle (8) and a traversing thread guide (5) during winding of the package. According to the invention the inverse-thread shaft (10) is mounted on the machine frame (14) in a fixed manner, and the support system (22) together with a slide guide of the traversing thread guide (5) can be pivoted about an axis of the inverse-thread shaft (10).
