Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9845425A1] The invention relates to a novel selection process to identify novel mutants of Escherichia coli KO11, an ethanologenic bacterium, that exhibit the ability to grow and survive in ethanol concentrations beyond that in which the parent Escherichia coli KO11 can survive. The new approach, which alternates between selection for ethanol resistance and selection for rapid growth on solid medium containing a high level of chloramphenicol, resulted in strains which are potentially useful for ethanol production.
