[origin: WO9845288A1] The present invention provides a method for the treatment or prophylaxis of benign prostatic hyperplasia or prostatic cancer in a patient in need of such treatment comprising administering a selective estrogen receptor modulating compound of formula (I), in which R<1> and R<2> are independently hydroxy and alkoxy of one to four carbon atoms; and R<3> and R<4> are independently methyl or ethyl, or R<3> and R<4>, taken together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a pyrrolidino, methyl-pyrrolidino, dimethylpyrrolidino, piperidino, morpholino, or hexamethyleneimino ring.
