[origin: WO9846989A1] The present invention relates to methods for detecting teratogen exposure in neonates. In particular, the present invention is directed to the detection of prenatal (i.e., in utero) exposure to ethanol. In accordance with the present invention, fatty acid ethyl esters, produced as the by-products of non-oxidative ethanol metabolism are detected in samples such as meconium and cord blood.
