[origin: EP0976860A1] Tufting needles (4) are held in modules (3) which are mounted on needle bars so that alternate needles are displaced in the direction (6) of tufting. The displacement (S2) is at most half the stitch spacing (5). An Independent claim is also included for a method of mounting which allows the displacement within a row to be adjusted. Preferred Features: The displacement (S2) is equal to the quotient of 50 divided by the number of stitches per dm.
