The printer has a first electrographic printing mechanism (D1) which prints an image pattern onto a sheet material. It has a first printing transport path (44), entry and output section via which the sheets pass singly in succession. A second identical printing mechanism (D2) is located in a second transport path (46). The second mechanism receives sheets via the same entry section (28) and feeds the printed images to the same output section (42). Both printing transport paths (44,46) are connected to two rings (R1,R2) via connecting paths (48,50,52). The sheet printed by one mechanism can be fed back to the same mechanism and passed though it in the same direction as in the first printing process.

Beschrieben wird ein Drucker mit zwei gleichartigen Druckwerken (D1,D2), denen über einen Eingabeabschnitt (28) blattförmiges Material zugeführt wird. Das bedruckte Material wird über einen gemeinsamen Ausgabeabschnitt (52) ausgegeben. Dem zweiten Druckwerk (D2) ist ein Abführkanal (52) zugeordnet, über den Material, das vom zweiten Druckwerk (D2) auf einer Seite bedruckt wurde, diesem erneut zum Bedrucken auf der Rückseite zuführbar ist. Über den Abführkanal (52) ist blattförmiges Material, das vom ersten Druckwerk (D1) bedruckt wurde, unter Umgehung des Umdruck-Transportwegs (46) des zweiten Druckwerks (D2) zum Ausgabeabschnitt (42) abführbar. <IMAGE>
