Abstract (en)

A transversal cutting machine of logs of paper and the like, comprising a support base (5a, 6a) for the logs (2) and a top clamp element (5b, 6b) capable of pressing cyclically the logs (2) for holding them in synchronism with a saw (3) , arranged on a rocking frame (3a), that cuts them off cyclically into portions (2a). The machine comprises means for adjusting the height (10, 11, 14-17, 22a, 22b, 22c) of the top clamp element (5b, 6b) and means for releasably locking (8, 12a, 12b) a plurality of shells (5a, 6a, 5b, 6b) provided on the base and on the top clamp element, whereby the quick adaptation to the change of diameter of said logs (2) is possible. The shells (5a, 6a, 5b, and 6b) can engage with the base and the top clamp elements by means of quickly releasable lock pins (12a, 12b). The top clamp element is divided in two sections (5, 6) hanging from a pair of support transversal bars (10, 11) mounted on uprights (14-17). Actuators (13, 20) linked to the uprights and to the transversal bars are provided, as well as a height adjusting device of the transversal bars (19, 21, 22a, 22b, 22c). <IMAGE>
