[origin: EP0982645A2] The foot pedal used in a road vehicle has the main operating lever [7] coupled to a second part [2] that has the hinge point fixed it. The mechanical coupling between the two parts is provided by a rack and pinion coupling. This allows the overall length of the pedal to be varied to different drivers.
