Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19722202A1] The invention relates to a metal catalyst support (1) to clean exhaust fumes, especially from small engines, and to a method for the production of said support which is preferably built into a silencer casing (6). The catalyst support (1) has a plurality of inner flow paths (14) and is mounted in an exhaust pipe (6). The catalyst support (1) has a retaining element (3) with an opening (4). Said retaining element surrounds at least one part of the enveloping surface of the catalyst support (1)with the opening (4) and is directly secured thereto, so that the catalyst support (1) remains dimensionally stable and can be transported. According to the invention, the retaining element (3) can be joined to the exhaust pipe casing (6) which forms an inflow chamber (10) and an outflow chamber (11) in such a way that the retaining element (3) seals and separates both chambers from each other. The retaining element (3) means that no jacket tube is required for the catalyst support (1) and enables said support to be built into a silencer casing (6) both directly and easily.
