[origin: WO9845889A1] A polymer-electrolyte fuel cell (1) using air as oxidizing agent, under low overpressure, and different combustion gases, in particular hydrogen, is cooled by feeding liquid water directly into the gas passages (5, 9) of the combustion air and possibly of the combustible gas. The water introduced into the gas passages also serves to wet the solid polymer electrolyte (4).
