[origin: WO9854594A1] Disclosed are a method and device for determining a probable path or path region to be covered by a vehicle (21), the speed of which can be controlled depending on the distance from vehicles (22) ahead thereof, the path region being determined at least from the path covered by a preceding vehicle. A lateral offset (23) is determined relative to all detected vehicles. Another embodiment enables the probable path region that has been determined to be marked off using detected static objects.
