[origin: DE19724302A1] The invention relates to a food tray (2), specially for airplanes, motor vehicles or other means of transportation. The tray (2) consists of a body (4) which is designed to provide a first surface (6) to accommodate food and a receiving section (7) extending above the first surface (66) at a distance thereto with a second surface (30) for accommodating food on top. The actual base surface of the tray (2) is small because the surfaces (6, 26) to accommodate food are arranged at different levels. The combined overlapping surfaces (6, 26) of the tray (2) provide a greater surface for accommodating food than the base surface of the tray. The inventive tray (2) is therefor particularly suitable for use in confined spaces, e.g. on board airplanes. The height of the tray (2) can be dimensioned in such a way that the body (4) of the tray and the receiving section (26) thereon can fit into a compartment of an existing trolley. This saves space, e.g. on airplanes.
