[origin: WO9854097A1] Process for the purification of alkaline waste water containing anionic compounds that may react with calcium and form water insoluble precipitates. A precipitating agent is added to the waste water. The agent contains a soluble calcium salt and a cationic polymer with molecule weight in the range of 1 to 12 millions in proportion by weight from 10:1 to 100:1 in an amount corresponding to 0.001 to 3 g calcium ion and the corresponding amount polymer per litre waste water. The formed precipitate is removed by using known techniques for the separation of solid and liquid substances.
