[origin: WO9857698A1] A cannula valve unit is provided for the control of liquid flow that comprises an inlet valve and an outlet valve and has ends adapted for connecting to a cannula. The unit is cylindrical and has cross-sectional areas for liquid flow substantially equal to the cross-sectional area of the cannula with which it is used. The inlet and outlet valves are designed to reduce stress on blood cells in the instance where the liquid is blood.
