The cooking appliance has a hob plate (2) provided with a number of cooking zones (72,74,76,78) and an integrated timing control (12) allowing programming of the start time and/or the operating duration of at least one cooking zone heating element, selected via operating elements (45,47) with a capacitive, inductive, or piezoelectric sensor and a display element for indicating the selected time.
