Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0991093A1] In the closed position, a current (I1) flows through two contacts (10,11). When the contacts are opened an arc is formed. To extinguish the arc quickly, a second current (I2) is passed through one contact at right angles to the first, forming a magnetic field which extinguishes arc formations.
